Operation Toofan 2.0

Operation Toofan is a strong anti-drug campaign being implemented jointly by the State Home Department and the Kerala Police in Kerala to combat the drug mafia.

Key Information

  • Launch: Officially launched on June 2, 2026.

  • Objective: To prevent the spread of synthetic drugs such as MDMA and cannabis, and to dismantle drug trafficking networks.

  • Second Phase – “Toofan Thaddesham”: As part of strengthening the fight against drugs, the second phase of the campaign will be launched on September 28 in Vengara, Malappuram.

  • Achievements: Within a few days of the launch of the campaign, drug-related activities in the state have reportedly been reduced by 20 to 30 percent, and more than 10,000 people have been arrested.

  • Key Features: The campaign includes “Toofan Eye” CCTV surveillance in schools, “Follow the Money” investigations to disrupt the financial sources of drug networks, and “Toofan Care,” a rehabilitation programme for students and first-time drug users.
