Jagratha Samithi
JAGRATHA SAMITHI
What is Jagratha Samithi?
Jagratha Samithi is a protection forum for women and children that operates with continuous vigilance at the local level to ensure the rights of women and children, guarantee their physical, mental, and life security, and prevent atrocities, rights violations, and social exclusions against them.
To provide a protective framework, the Jagratha Samithis will act immediately on matters requiring instant intervention in the locality. The committees can also take up cases and issues that were abandoned due to the absence of various other committees, utilizing the legal protections and mechanisms available to women and children.
OBJECTIVES
- To protect the rights of women and children, and to ensure strong interventions and necessary arrangements for redressal against any atrocity, discrimination, violation of justice, exploitation, and denial of rights they may face.
- To accept any complaint in which women and children are parties, and to resolve it through immediate interventions or support mechanisms.
- To forward complaints and issues that cannot be resolved by the Jagratha Samithi itself to the District Jagratha Samithi, Women's Commission, other government mechanisms, and legal aid agencies, and to ensure that the outcomes reach the grassroots level through follow-up actions.
- To coordinate government-level agencies and schemes meant for protecting the various rights of women and girls. To make activities possible by coordinating the operations of other agencies having similar objectives with the Jagratha Samithi.
- To implement activities that create a social environment where no issues or problems arise against women and children in society.
- To form various types of groups/collectives and utilize popular public mechanisms to achieve the objectives.
- To ensure community support and monitoring for women and child welfare activities in situations vulnerable to misuse/exploitation.
